Updated over 2 months ago

Overview

Product Templates are the key towards creating new product types within the app. It is used when creating new products and helps record the necessary data for those particular products. Within this article, we will perform a deep dive on product templates.

What is a Product Template?

Product templates are the blue print that best describes the key features a certain product type such as:

  • Sizing

  • Condition

  • Brand

  • Color

Product templates help to ensure that these key features are recorded whenever you create an item under that product.

Creating a Product Template

To create a new product template:

  1. Go to the templates tab from the left side bar.

  2. Click on the top right button labeled "Add template".

  3. Fill out the fields listed such as name, category, and weight.

  4. Add the necessary options that are key to describing the product type.

We strongly recommend that you make Size the first option value for your new product templates. It helps the ConsignR system display your new products/inventory items correctly!

Using a Product Template

Product Templates are mainly used in two situations:

  • Creating a new product.

  • Creating a new inventory item.

New Products

When creating a new product, you need to assign it a product template to give it a product type.

For example, if I wanted to add the new Jordan 1 ConsignR Toes, I would need to assign it a template of Sneakers - Mens in this case. This template would require all incoming Jordan 1 ConsignR Toes to have their size and condition recorded.

New Inventory Items

When creating an inventory item without an associated product, you will need to assign it a product template.

After creating the item, a new product will be created from the inventory item creation and the product template you chose will be associated with the new product.

If you are creating an inventory item that has an associated product, the item template field will be automatically be filled in for you.

Viewing Product Template Information

Information that the product template helps to record can be found on the inventory item's details page.

The fields are displayed after the location field and before any custom fields, tags, and notes.
